Homemade Lip Exfoliating Treatment
Now that summer has come and gone, I find myself applying more lip balm, lotion, and drinking more water to combat dryness.
Fall is notorious for not helping the dry situation. If you know me, one of my pet peeves is dry skin…but especially dry lips. My friends know me to always be applying lip balm…literally multiple times a day. Morning, noon, night, and all the times in between. I don’t leave the house without double checking I have lip balm.
Like I said, it’s a pet peeve.
One of the tricks I use is to exfoliate my lips daily. That sounds a little weird, but it actually keeps your lips smooth and healthy looking. I normally just use a toothbrush, but lately, I whipped us this little pot of gold.
It contains magical ingredients for the softest, smoothest lips you could ask for. So grab a little container, whip this up, and try it for yourself!
Pot of Gold Lip Treatment
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Vitamin E oil
- Pure honey
- Turmeric
- Orange essential oil
- Sugar*
*Alternatively, you can use sea salt instead of sugar.
I’m not giving measurements, because I didn’t actually measure. However, what I did is use a 1/4 part olive oil, 1/4 part honey, and 1/2 part of sugar with a little extra room in the container. To that, I added about 6-8 drops of essential oil and vitamin E, and a sprinkle of turmeric. Basically, just mix to the consistency you want…it’s a scrub, so don’t make it too oily…just add more sugar if you need to.
The sugar (or salt) and turmeric is what exfoliates. The olive oil, vitamin E, and honey softens, conditions, and heals. The turmeric is anti-aging (the mouth can be one of the places on our face that shows age the quickest) and aesthetically, make this scrub look “gold”. The orange essential oil increases the ability to absorb vitamin C, increases circulation and collagen production which can make your lips look fuller and younger.
This treatment is a little bit messy, so I only use it in the shower or bath. Your lips will feel so good after!
What’s your beauty “pet peeve”? Have you ever done a lip treatment like this?
