6 Relaxing Bedtime Routines to Wake up Looking Good
Evening is my favourite time of day. Things are done and you can finally relax. Today I thought I’d share some of the things I do before bed to chill and feel refreshed in the morning.
1. Light a candle and write in my 5-year journal – I love this journal so much. It’s essentially a time capsule in diary form. There are 365 daily questions/prompts and you answer each question…for 5 years! I’m excited to see how my answers evolve over the next few years.
This is one of my favourite ways for me to end the day…just sitting and reflecting. Sometimes the questions are really deep, and other times I find myself answering quirky prompts with sahara dry sarcasm or even funny hashtags. Either way, there’s something about putting pen to paper that fills me with such a lot of happy.
I actually found my 5-year journal at Cracker Barrel, but I also found it on Amazon for like HALF the price I found mine for. Plus, I think it’s just the cutest book to put on your bedside table.
2. Have a bath and use the exfoliating gloves – Seriously, is there anything better than a hot bath! People always make fun of me for not liking showers. I hate showers. They are simply not nice.
Anyway, I love using these exfoliating gloves. They are like a washcloth for your hands and leave your skin so smooth and feeling healthy. I literally got these for less than $2 at the dollar store! I know they’re going to wear out super quick, so I think my next pair will be these ones, but for the moment they work great.
3. Use a gel eye mask – Last week I started using this. I was having a terrible week for headaches and exhaustion (also why I didn’t blog much) and painkillers wouldn’t always work. My sister lent me this eye mask and it was the only thing that dulled the pain a bit. It can be used hot or cold, but I used it cold (Bonus! Depuffs the eye area and reduces “baggage”).
4. Tidy my nails (and apply lip balm!) – I like to file my nails to keep them healthy and honestly…doing my nails at night while listening to music or watching something on Netflix…how much more awesome can it get?!
As for lip balm, my current favourite is the EOS Blueberry Acaii. I purchased a huge pack of them so I’m stocked up for ages. I literally apply lip balm 12x daily. I’m super paranoid about dry lips. #quirky
5. Paint nails – Obviously this doesn’t happen every evening, but I try to give hands and feet a little love about once a week.
6. Moisturize like a mad woman – I think the secret to young, healthy skin is moisturizing (also for maintaining a good tan) and I’m pretty religious about it. Face, body, lips…I don’t discriminate. It all gets the love! Often I use coconut oil and essential oils, but lately my new favourite is the whipped argan oil by Josie Maran, it’s very natural and smells like oranges…so it’s hard to resist. For my face, I’ve been using this Rejuvenating Barrier. Friends of mine so sweetly gave these products to me and I’m really enjoying them.
So there you have it…a few of my favourite nighttime rituals!
Clue me in! What are some of your relaxing bedtime routines? Or maybe self-care product you’re digging right now?

To unwind from the stress of the day, we often watch a Netflix movie in the evening. When I go up to my bedroom I light a natural-scent lavender candle, spray some valerian & lavender mist on the bed linens, then sit and work on a crossword puzzle for a while until I reach my limit and feel sleepy. Once in awhile I put on some soft music. And, don’t forget to blow out the candle!
I also like to enjoy my evenings in a certain way – relaxing and pampering myself. I think its a great way to destress and connect to your inner self.
Great article. Really enjoyed reading it.
