Matcha Monsoon Smoothie (my way)
Years ago I used to frequent Booster Juice all the time. It was my favourite place in the world. Now, as I’ve learned more about nutrition and blood sugar/pH, I save most smoothie shops for “treat day”. In the average store-bought smoothie there is a ridiculously high amount of sugar…natural sugar, yes…but it’s still sugar. Don’t get me wrong, there is NOTHING the matter with natural sugars. However, if you’re looking to trim down or maintain your weight, high sugar foods should not be an every day, every meal thing.
I’m vain about my weight, so I limit sugars for special occasions. Does this mean I deprive myself? Nah. I really don’t.
Anyway, back to Booster Juice. My favourite smoothie there was called the Matcha Monsoon made with matcha (obvi), soymilk, and frozen yogurt. It is probably one of the most delicious things. I tried to replicate it, ditching the froyo (sugar!) and soymilk (not my thing!). I know you’ll love it.
Matcha Monsoon Protein Smoothie
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1 tbsp. heavy whipping cream*
- 1 cup ice
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder**
- 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extra
- 1 tsp. matcha powder
- stevia, to taste
*If you are dairy intolerant or vegan, just replace this with 1/2 avocado
**I used whey protein, but use whatever kind fits your dietary preferences
Blend. Blend. And blend some more. I like adding a lot of ice, which makes it a long blending process. I’m all about eating smoothies with a spoon…like ice-cream.
Into chocolate mint? Add some raw cacao nibs (or cocoa) and peppermint extract (or leaves from the plant).
Do you like the taste of matcha? How do you use it?

Mmm … this sounds absolutely delicious!
EEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHH! This looks SO good!! I love matcha and the heavy cream is a nice touch! Have you ever used Organic Valley’s Half and Half? I love it because it’s just as creamy as heavy cream and easier to digest, but also super thick and rich…totally yum. Thanks for sharing, and love the cacao touch!
Heather – I love using half and half (& cream) too – it gives that “milkshake” flare with a lot less calories. I prefer to always use organic, but sometimes it’s hard to get…I’ll keep an eye out for the Organic Valley!
Looks great and I will make this today because I have all the ingredients (except I will omit the stevia because I don’t like smoothies too sweet)!!
Matcha madness in my house now! Must try these ASAP too.
Love a good matcha smoothie <3
I am going to make this yummy looking smoothie right now!
