My Kind of Moonshine
Have you heard of Good Girl Moonshine? For years, there has been a ton of beverages or “detox” drinks including apple cider vinegar. Hearing of all the amazing things about ACV (apple cider vinager) I kept trying them…however, they often left my tummy feeling a little funny or it was hard to gulp down.
Then I tried the Trim Healthy Mama recipe called Good Girl Moonshine. I don’t know what it is about it, but I actually like it. To me, it’s like a healthy ginger pop (or soda, for you Americans).
There’s a lot of things going for ACV, but here are some of the main reasons I think it’s a superfood:
- Raises metabolism (+appetite suppressant = weight loss)
- Decrease glucose levels (amazing!)
- Lowers cholesterol and high blood pressure
- Aids in digestion
- Boosts energy levels
- Detoxifies the body
Here’s the original recipe from Trim Healthy Mama (posted with permission)…
Good Girl Moonshine from THM (original recipe)
- 12 ounce glass of ice water
- 1-2 Tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar
- Ginger, fresh or powdered (I usually just chop up a knob of ginger and pop it in the glass…more like an infusion)
- Stevia to taste
It’s basically a skeleton recipe to get creative with. You can feel free to add fruit or flavours galore…
Here’s my personal twist on the recipe that is my new addictive drink of choice!
Charissa’s Good Girl Moonshine
- 1 Mason jar loaded to the top with ice
- A small handful of mixed berries (raspberries and blueberries are my favourite!)
- A knob of ginger, sliced thinly
- Half a lemon, squeezed
- 1-2 tbsp. apple cider vinager
- Nunaturals stevia*
- Carbonated spring water
*I’ve been trying NuNaturals new Nustevia Reb99 and it’s crazy! They say 1 tsp of this stuff is equal to 1-1/2 cups of sugar! Whaaaa! That being the case, I used the tiniest sprinkle of this in my beverage. It’s potent. If you’re worried about stevia being too expensive, this certainly is cost effective as it will last you a LONG time! I also use the flavoured stevia syrups in this too for a new twist (the cherry vanilla, orange, and lemon are delicious in it!).
When you use sparkling water it turns this drink into something entirely different! It really does taste like pop! It’s the perfect thing to wean people off their pop addictions in a crazy healthy way!
I also love that it’s not a drink you guzzle down, it’s something that is savoured and refreshing!
Have you tried the famous Good Girl Moonshine or any other ACV kind of drinks?
