Cacao Refuel Smoothie
Can I just say how much I love doing this August challenge with you guys? I’ve received so many emails, tweets, and Instagram messages that made me smile so wide! It makes me so happy knowing that you guys are loving making your health a priority!
For this challenge, Vega sent me some of their new sport protein powder geared for fitness performance. While I’m certainly not vegan, I am a Vega fan for life and simply adore everything they make. The nutrient score on this stuff is through the roof!!
Vega sport protein is dairy, gluten, and soy free (and no sugars added) product, but what I really love is the fact that there are over 5,000mg of BCAA’s (branch chain amino acids) in each serving. That’s not common in vegan protein supplements.
What are BCAA’s? Well, here’s the short version: Branched chained amino acids are essential (our body doesn’t make them) amino acids. These amino acids are building blocks for protein and can improve exercise performance, reducing muscle breakdown/fatigue, increase oxygen carrying capacity, and stimulate muscle growth.
As well as the benefits just mentioned, Vega Sport will also reduce recovery time between exercise and has a flipping 26 grams of all-natural, plant based PROTEIN! I also really love that it is low in carbs and includes an enzyme blend for optimal digestion.
PERFECT for after a workout! So here’s my newest Vega recipe for post-workout…
Cacao Refuel Smoothie
- 1/2 c. almond milk
- 1 heaping tablespoon chocolate superfood*
- 1 tbsp. raw cacao nibs
- 1/2 c. coconut water
- 1 Vega Sport pack
- 8 ice cubes
*I used my friend Sophie’s Cacao Magic, but you could use cocoa too
Blend everything and top with raw cacao nibs (love these for extra energy).

I love my BCAAs! I have them every morning and post workout. Great recipe – I top everything with cacao nibs. :)
Wow…damn that looks good! Would loved to have added that recipe to my cookbook ;) Nice job!
Ohhh I’d love to try the vega sport :)
Can’t wait to try this recipe. I even have some Vega Sport on hand. I’ll just have to substitute out almond milk (allergies) but the combination of flavours looks delicious! Cacao nibs are great boosts of energy I find!
This truly looks mouthwatering!! I would eat it with a spoon.
Looks yummy! Thanks for linking up!
I’m back from my vacation. Looks like your challenge is even more competitive than last year. That smoothie is totally up my alley. I must have one.
That is yum in a glass! Totally making this!
