Crunch Time Workout
Last week I was able to try an hour long core class at a gym. It was a crazy workout and I thought I’d die, but I LOVED it.
Core work is one of my favourite workouts. It’s also the part of our body that is one of the most important to train. For strength and stability, it all starts with the core. Core strength is what supports our spine/upper body, helps us have proper posture, stabilization, and decreases/eliminates lower back pain. Usually, the cause of lower back pain is because the core isn’t strong…or even that the abdominal muscles are strong, but the muscles directly behind are weak. Muscles start compensating for the weakness and can cause extra tension.
What muscles does the core include?
Muscles in your lower back, abdominal muscles, and muscles associated with the hip flexors and spine.
One round of this workout is five minutes. The first four minutes are ab and lower back work and the last minute is a little cardio burst. You can do this 2-3 times. The exercises are pretty straight forward, but just in case you’re not sure what some of them are…here are some links/explanations:
- Alternating supermans
- Russian twists
- Knee-up crossovers – from standing position, bring your opposite elbow to opposite knee and crunch down.
- Skaters
After the workout, it’d be a good idea to finish up with the cobra pose and the child pose to stretch out your lower back and your abs.
Hope you like!
What body group do you enjoy working the most? Hate or love doing abs?

Ugh, I hate doing abs. I really need to I keep telling myself, but I just don’t have to motivation to get started and keep going.
I agree. A core workout is so important. I’ll try yours today.
I’m so glad you included more exercises than planks to your core workout. So many people forget to work the back too!
