Chocolate Grab and Go Bars
While I love stashing store bought bars in my bag for when I’m out and about, it can get a little pricey.
That’s why, from time to time, I like to make a big batch of homemade bars. I will wrap each bar in plastic wrap and freeze most of them until I need them.
Cost effective and tasty. Especially when I make them chocolate.
I especially love this bar because it’s higher in fibre and yo, it just tastes scrummy.
Chocolate Grab and Go Bars
- 6 TB hemp seeds
- 1/2 cup sesame seeds
- 1/2 cup sunflower seeds
- 6 dates
- 1/2 cup almond butter
- 4 TB cocoa
- 1/2 cup quick oats
- 1/2 coconut, unsweetened
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips
- 1/5 cup flax seeds, ground
- 1/4 cup walnuts
- 1/2 cup water
Mix all the ingredients (except chocolate chips) together in a food processor. If you need more liquid to mix it into a dough, add some water. Mix in chocolate chips. Fill a glass pan evenly with the batter and slice into bars. Makes about 15-16 bars. Note: You could even add some protein powder in there if you like.
Each bar is about 4 grams of fibre, 5 grams of protein and about 180 calories.
Do you make your own bars or do you go for convenience and buy them?

loving the fact that I have all these ingredients in my kitchen. I’ll be making these shortly ; )
who said chocolate can’t be healthy? you sure showed them!
I do not like dates, raisins or anything that even remotely tastes like it. Any ideas for a substitute? I imagine those help hold it together. Thanks.
YUMMMM!!!!!! I need to get sesame seeds and dates and I am all about these bars!!!! I just ran out of pre-packaged bars; what a perfect excuse to make my own!
Sometimes I make bars, but other times I like the convenience of having the premade ones around. Your recipe looks like a good one.
Sharpened Pomnitz – Maybe try honey, agave nectar, or brown rice syrup? I’d love to hear how it turns out!
my recipe, love it!:
2 tbsp better than peanut butter (or any nut butter )
1 large Banana
1/4 c nuts (almonds & cashews)
1/2 c dried fruits (raisins, craisins, apricots, etc)
1/2 cup dry Oats
2 scoops protein powder (Pro Performance AMP Amplified Whey Protein Vanilla)
chop the nuts & dried fruit, chop the banana, mix and make bars or a cookie sheet w parchment paper, bake @ 350 for 15 min, turning half way through. can be in the fridge for 1-2 weeks!!
i love it plain, or crumble on yogurt :)
I love making homemade bars… it’s so simple and they end up so much tastier than store bought ones! These look absolutely delicious, like “get in my mouth right now” delicious, or “I have to make a batch of these asap” delicious. :)
