Chocolate Banana Protein Pancake (& review)
A year ago I didn’t know what protein pancakes were. Now I can’t imagine my life without them.
I love them because not only are they full of protein, they’re filling, lower calorie, versatile, and of course…DELICIOUS.When FitFluential sent me this NytroWhey chocolate protein powder (from Prosource) to review, the first thought that came to mind was “chocolate protein pancakes”. I had never made them before, so I couldn’t wait to try it. I’ll get to my thoughts on NytroWhey in a minute, but first I want to share this recipe with you! Serves 1-2.
Chocolate Banana Protein Pancakes
- 1 organic egg
- ½ banana, mashed
- 2 scoops of NytroWhey chocolate protein powder*
- 1 tsp. organic flaxseed, ground
- Pinch sea salt
- Almond milk to thin batter (about 2 tbsp.)
*Or other chocolate protein powder
Mix everything up well in a bowl or blender. Pour batter into a heated non-stick pan. Flip when each side is cooked.
Top with desired toppings and enjoy!
I put plain Greek yogurt (mixed with Truvia), chopped banana, and a drizzle of maple syrup over my pancakes and it was delicious! I love adding the yogurt on top because it’s just that much more protein!

Now…onto what I think of this stuff.
Of all the protein powders I’ve tried, it’s really rare that I find a protein that I enjoy as is – mixed with just water or milk. OFten they’re chalky or just taste disgusting. The last thing I want to do is chug down a protein drink with my nose plugged. I like to enjoy what I eat/drink. Eating healthy should not be painful. Those kinds of yucky protein powders I tend to blend in a meal replacement shake with sweet fruits…then they taste good!
That being the case, I was really curious to see what this protein powder tasted like. So today I grabbed my bottle of protein powder mixed with milk and took it with me to beach volleyball.
I was in love. Seriously, it’s just like chocolate milk. It’s not thick, pasty, or chalky. It was DEE-LICOUS.
21 grams of protein gone just like that!
Also, I felt like it really fueled my body and was great for recovering after my tough, long, energy-draining day.
Another thing I appreciated about it was how low it was in sugar it was…just 3.5 grams per serving. Lots of protein powders are really high in sugar and I don’t love that at all. Nope.
The only thing I wasn’t sure about was the extra-long ingredient list. There were quite a few ingredients I didn’t recognize and wasn’t sure I could pronounce.
However, I’m not going to lie, I will enjoy every scoop of this protein until it’s gone, because it’s kind of delicious and fills my protein needs!

I like the protein powder I use, when it’s in pancakes/oatmeal/baked goods … but I don’t like it as a shake. Too chalky! I might have to give this one a try, because it sounds like it could be better!
I love protein pancakes, and I ALWAYS top mine with Greek yogurt!
I am so trying this! I love pancakes!
