Vegan Chocolate Milk
It’s totally fall. The air is nippy. The colours have changed. Kids are boarding the yellow buses, diligently text each other in class, study, and then come home ready for their after-school snack.
This is where this blog post comes in handy. I think milk and cookies are the traditional fare for worn out nerves after a hard test…but run of the mill dairy ain’t the healthiest thing anymore and most cookies promote wide-eyed bouncing on the couch for an hour straight.
You could make these.
Healthy Peanut Butter Freezer Cookies
Or these…
Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookies
And serve them with chocolate milk. This recipe is from my beautiful sister-in-law Lisa (who has four little girls who are avid chocolate lovers) and I’m so glad she shared it with me! It’s a super simple recipe, which of course…makes it all the better. Serves 2
Vegan Chocolate Milk
- 2 cups unsweetened almond milk
- 2 tbsp. pure maple syrup
- 4 drops vanilla extract
- 2 tsp. pure cocoa
Mix everything up. It’s a little hard to get the cocoa mixed in with a whisk, but if your diligent…it works fine (that’s what I did). Next time I think I’ll just whir it in the blender for a few seconds.

After I enjoyed some chocolate milk as is, I thought it’d be fun to make it into a “Chocolate Milk Protein Shake”. I simply added a scoop of chocolate protein powder to the chocolate milk, lots of ice and blended it up. It was really delicious and a great way to get that much more protein in.
I love it when brilliant ideas come out of nowhere. Such as yesterday’s idea…blue skirt with a pink top. I thought I was so original. I stepped into the bathroom to brush my hair and lo and behold…my sister was wearing the exact same thing! I don’t like being all matchy matchy…but it amused us…hence the picture.
Do you mind matching with others? What are some of your best after school snacks you give your kids?

Those are some yummy after-school snacks. This is what Hayden and I made for Jacob the other day: http://rawdorable.blogspot.com/2011/09/back-to-snack-and-play-too.html
Your outfits are so cute. My sisters and I used to match all the time and sometimes still do. Occasionally, Hayden and I have been caught coordinating our outfits on my blog.
Nice! I would live to bottle this and use it as a after gym treat!
Yum! this sounds really good! THe addition of maple syrup is a really good idea :)
One of my kids’ favorites is a bagel with cream cheese. I sneak a little veggie into the cream cheese and make sure the bagels are whole grain and voila! Instant healthy snack.
