Coffee has become a better friend than ever. I’ve adjusted my schedule quite drastically and I now get up outrageously early so that I can go to the gym before my morning classes hit. While this night owl still gets used to getting up while it’s still dark, coffee has become a staple.
Hot or cold, it’s a blessing.
However, currently my favourite way to enjoy it is as a post-workout breakfast…and yes, protein in the shake and whipped cream on top. I’m that girl. Serves 2.
Low Carb Frappuccino
- 2 cups almond milk, unsweetened
- 1 tbsp. heavy cream (opt)
- 8 stevia drops*
- 1 tbsp. instant coffee
- 1 scoop of whey protein, unsweetened
- 1 tray of ice
- Cinnamon and nutmeg, to taste**
*I used vanilla flavoured NuNaturals – I use this for everything, no joke
**Or you can use these spices just for a pretty dusting on top of the shake
Blend everything in a high speed blender. Pour into two glasses, top with whipped cream (optional for you – necessary for me!) and serve.
This recipe can be made vegan as well, simply omit the cream and use a plant based protein instead of whey.
Are you a coffee fan? What do you like better – hot or cold?

You know I’ve been on a smoothie kick lately, but here’s another drink that’s been on my happy radar. For the new Colourful Palate reader, the “Star Recipes” feature is where I highlight a recipe from another blogger or recipe book (with permission of course!) that I dig so much I have to pass on the love!
Several years ago, when I was still doing Continue reading »

It’s amazing what a few spices can do. They can take the most boring food and make it extraordinary…think about how bland everything would be without salt. Really blaaaaaaaa….nd.
However, when I think about it, I haven’t used a lot of spices in my smoothies. What made me think this, was this amazing chai smoothie I had Continue reading »

I’m always looking for ways to eat my beloved spirulina, and while I have some creative ideas brewing in my brain, I always revert back to spirulina smoothies.
